ABOUT JOHN SLOANE
My name is John Sloane and I am a fifth year student at Penn State studying Architectural Engineering and I plan to pursue a career as a Lighting Designer. After developing a passion for the construction trades in high school, I searched for a college program that could challenge me academically in the construction and engineering field. I discovered Architectural Engineering, and the rest is history.
Using my previous construction and leadership experiences, I became passionate about helping others. I joined Habitat for Humanity at Penn State, where I serve as the Executive Director. Throughout my years at Penn State I have built homes with Habitat for Humanity in Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, Detroit and Portugal. I am constantly looking for the next Habitat Build!
In the past five years, I have developed a passion for how lighting can shape a human experience. As a future Lighting Designer, I am anxious to utilize the things that I am learning to make a positive impact on other people’s visual experience.
In my experience, no matter the job, a passion for a project will rocket it to success. Everyday, I try to apply this philosophy to anything that I do. I hope to continue combining my past experiences with my passion and drive to make a positive impact in the engineering, construction and lighting industry.
