Historic Facade

The use of 3D scanning technology to revolutionize the lighting design process with historic structures.

This historic building, built in 1860, is rich with historic ornament and antiquity. The client wanted to draw attention to this building at night, combining rich materials and tasteful lighting design. The challege with any historic renovation is the lack of documentation.

In order to validate lighting design schemes, over 400 photos were taken of the structure during a site visit to construct a 3D Scanned Model. This model, although roughly accurate, provided an excellent validation tool for designers to valiate luminaire selection and placement.

This project was completed during an internship at Lam Partners in collaboration with Jennifer Sanborn and Paul Zaferiou.
